1. Definition of the process. A process is a continuous part of the process when one or a group of workers process one or more workpieces at the same place of work, called a process. The conditions for dividing the process are: the work place, the processing personnel, the workpiece, the processing content and the equipment and tools are unchanged, and the time should be continuous. One of the six changes becomes another process. The division of the process into processes is the inevitable result of the division of production, but there is no constant criterion for the division of processes, the division of processes is mainly based on the production scale and specific production conditions of the product, in accordance with the principles of convenient processing, favorable management, high productivity and low processing costs. Different processing schemes can be adopted according to the specific conditions of its output and workshop equipment.

2. Installation. Installation refers to the part of the process that is completed after the workpiece is clamped once. The purpose is to keep the workpiece in the correct position relative to the tool and obtain the desired surface during the cutting motion. Installation consists of positioning and clamping two parts, in the same process, the workpiece may be installed one or more times. Parts in the processing process should be as much as possible to reduce the number of installation, because the more the number of installation, the greater the installation error, and the installation of the workpiece to increase the auxiliary time.
3. Station. The work station is a process in order to complete a certain process content. After a workpiece is clamped, the workpiece occupies the correct position in the machine tool or fixture, that is, the work station. There is at least one station for each installation of the workpiece. In order to reduce the number of installations, multi-station fixtures, rotary tables or multi-station processing after one installation on a multi-axis machine tool are often used.
4. Work steps. In an installation, the surface of the workpiece to be processed, the use of tools and cutting parameters are unchanged under the conditions of the completion of part of the process content, called the work step. If there is a change in the working conditions, it becomes another step, so one installation or one station includes one or more steps.
5. Walk the knife. In a work step, if the machining allowance is large and it is not suitable to be cut at one time, the cutting depth shall be reasonably specified for layered cutting. The working cycle of each cutting layer is called one-time cutting. A work step may include one or more passes.
6. Operation. Operation refers to the various actions necessary to complete a walk, step or process. Including starting the machine, tool setting, feed, retreating, returning, stopping, unloading the workpiece, measuring and installing, etc. Some of these actions are manual operation, while others are automatic.
